In English for Hospitals we offer made to measure courses for staff in various areas from ward staff to those with clerical duties. The appropriate course is decided upon when our interviews and needs analysis are completed and the staff are placement tested and placed in the appropriate levels.
Our courses help staff to clarify the areas in which they have difficulty, a considerable source of confusion and frustration for many foreign workers when they find themselves in a new country and culture with the demands of a foreign language.
We also help staff to understand the cultural aspects of a language, for instance, the technical elements that combine to generate politeness in a conversation, or types of body language and non-verbal gestures that can carry secondary meaning.
Finally, and perhaps more importantly, we offer staff the chance to improve their social language skills so that they can interact with the 'outside world', as it were, and thereby adjust more effectively to their life in Ireland.
